Housing Bill Becomes Law without President’s Signature

Home Keys
President Trump said he was protesting the lack of approval for the SAVE America Act, election security legislation.

The 21st Century Road to Housing Act became law this past weekend after President Donald Trump refused to sign it in protest over the Senate refusing to take up the SAVE America Act. If a president neither signs nor vetos legislation passed by both houses of Congress within ten days, not including Sundays, they are automatically enacted.

The housing bill was crafted by Senators Tim Scott of South Carolina and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Representatives French Hill of Arkansas and Maxine Waters of California, bringing bipartisan cohesiveness to legislation that had previously been rejected. The bill is intended to ease regulations surrounding home construction, including waiving environmental reviews for certain housing construction projects.

President Trump stated, “I will not sign the Housing Bill, which has been fully approved by Congress and sent to the White House, in PROTEST over the fact that the United States Senate is not capable of passing THE SAVE AMERICA ACT.”

The president noted that the SAVE Act has received very high bipartisan support from the American public. He added, “The Act states, quite simply, that to Vote a person must show Photo Voter I.D., Proof of Citizenship,” and no more mail-in ballots except “for Military, Disabled, Illness, and Travel!”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker Johnson and Majority Leader Thune as they preside over their respective congressional chambers.
  • For wisdom for members of the House and Senate as they consider legislation for floor votes.
  • For President Trump as he promotes the election integrity legislation to members of Congress.
